Wanda Hanlon, proprietor and buyer par excellance for O Mistress Mine, has been serving some of the most fashionable people in New York for over thirty years. Some of the biggest designers too, come to the shop to buy and reinvent the designs which are classic for the era. She covers the 20's through the eighties in her collections of hats, gloves, scarves and dresses.
Her jewelry is unsurpassed. New York Magazine has included O Mistress in their shop o matic data base and people from around the country and the world have all been outfitted at this one of the oldest and best boutiques in Manhattan
In business since 1969, originally in the West Village until 2007 and now at her current location in the East Village as of March 2, 2007, O Mistress Mine from Wanda Hanlon stands out as one of the first shops in New York to feature vintage clothing exclusively. She has designed fashions made from recycled fabrics into new garments since 1970. Also selling original vintage pieces from 1920 through 1970, which include formal gowns, furs, classic day dresses, hats, purses etc. There is also one rack of select men's vintage clothing. Everything in the shop in hand picked and in pristine condition.
Wanda greatly enjoys the fashions of today as many are inspired by vintage. Her interest in fashion was influenced by her Mother who taught her how to design and make clothing from an early age. She was her inspiration. Of course Wanda also received training from courses at fashion institutions in Manhattan and then just decided to open a shop which people did in those days. Give it a try.
