Save the Date: DAC

A free public program made possible by the Joan Mitchell Foundation and the Dedalus Foundation. For updates and a detailed schedule coming soon, visit: www.dumboartscenter.org Coordinated by Special Projects Manager, Shinnie Kim.
Dumbo Art Center’s annual workshop is a free total immersion weekend for emerging visual artists at the threshold of a professional career or new to New York City. The workshop aims to empower artists with information, practical know-how and encouragement in order to advance their careers in New York City's vast, complex and competitive art world. Needless to say, the prevailing economic climate presents our city's artists with challenges more daunting than seen in decades.
DAC cannot wave a magic wand, but can provide an invaluable learning experience and the support of a peer professional community. This year's highlights retain the best from previous years and introduce two new sessions in response to artists' feedback: Copyright /Copywrong, presented by an intellectual property attorney, is a guide to ownership of images in the digital age and Art of Public Speaking, a guide to effective oral communication with a live audience. Back by popular demand:
Speaking From Experience convenes a panel of mid-career artists, who relay their experience of navigating the New York art jungle; Doctor Sessions are one-on-one portfolio reviews by key visual arts professionals; Making a Statement smashes inhibitions about translating visual thoughts into the written word; Perfect Package nails the essentials of optimal portfolio presentation, and GYS T flies in from CA to help Get Your Shit Together with software developed by artists for artists
