    COCLICO :    Womens Shoes

About:

The first Coclico retail store opened in 2001 on Mott Street in Nolita, New York.
Sandra Canselier is a  fourth-generation shoemaker from France. After growing up in Europe, working in the US, traveling in South East Asia, she decided to move to New York City, where she had long wanted to live. She then launched her own brand, naming it “Coclico” , from the red poppy flowers ("coquelicot" in French) that she loves. Although she is   French, Sandra loves the energy of New York. She is a real Down Town girl and could not have opened the store anywhere else but Manhattan.
Sandra feels that inspiration can come from anywhere and that it is just a matter of free association. She gets inspired from different concepts, art, architecture, music and literature. For instance, the first ideas for SS 09, were conceived form Japanese woodcuts of the floating world (Ukiyo e) and broaded into forms and a palette of life in the sea.

Coclico’s long term goal is to become a sustainable company. This means that they are fully committed to lightening their impact on the Planet. Over time, the product will be more and more environmentally benign and the company will continue to take steps like offsetting office operations with carbon credits, minimizing packaging, and creating efficiencies.

COCLICO CONSCIOUSNESS

COCLICO is committed to becoming an environmentally sustainable company.
We see many opportunities for reducing negative impact on the planet.
We want to know that the people we work with, the materials that we use, and the energy that we spend creates a beautiful product and a clear conscious.

These are the areas where we can make a difference.
And this is what we’ve done so far…

MATERIAL SCRUTINY

We’ve added an additional layer to our design process.
We try to determine the origin, the make up, the impact of our materials.
Ideal components for now are biodegradable, recycled, renewable, and/or locally produced.
Perfect materials would be made locally from renewable resources, use renewable energy for production, and be totally bio-degradable.
We have found no perfect materials for our shoes yet.

However, S’09 collection contains the following improvements:

                                                              ·Vegetable tanned leather
                                                              ·Metal free tanned leather
·Regionally produced leather (in the Mediterranean)
                                                              ·Recycled PU sock foam
                                                              ·Recyclable, solvent-free reinforcement materials
·Nickel free & lead free metal hardware
                                                              ·FSC-certified cork
                                                              ·Wood (a renewable resource)

CARBON FOOTPRINT

To do anything in the world we’ve created takes energy.
We support renewable energy to replace our use of petroleum.

Carbon offsets
Coclico has purchased carbon offsets against office operations for this year.
We work with Native Energy to calculate our energy use and invest in projects and companies making advances away from petroleum.
Now we support a company that makes fuel from landfill gas and another working with the trucking industry to retrofit semis for greater fuel efficiency.

COLLABORATIVE THINKING

Coclico realizes that our product is more than the sum of its parts.
To make our shoes, it takes energy, materials, people, and care.
We hope to work with our customers, our suppliers, our factories, and other companies to re-think how we do things, to make better, sustainable things, to design toward the future.
