The first store, in Williamsburg, opened in 1997. at only 900 square feet, it was a humble little thing. due to heavy demand, however, the store quickly transformed into a fashion destination, and as such, needed more space. carrie peterson, the store’s founder, needed a solid partner. Sam Fogarino, the store’s first employee, initially filled that role. after Sam moved on to a full-fledged music career, Cindy Wheeler, who came to the beacon as a manager in 1999, took the reins. still owned and operated by Carrie and Cindy, the store made its big move in november of 2002, and now enjoys the luxury of inhabiting a 5500 square foot clothing paradise. The Park Slope store opened the day after christmas in 2002. This shop, opened by Carrie’s long-time friends Cindy H. and her husband Adrian, maintains a cozy and personal atmosphere, much like the original location in Williamsburg. This branch has been very warmly received in this lovely part of brooklyn, and is constantly inundated with fresh hot stock from neighborhood fashionistas. We have received an array of local and international press including features in Vanity Fair, Time Out NY, Jane, Lucky, The Village Voice, NY times, italian vogue, french vogue, and japan’s epica, and ef magazines. we have also received “best of” awards from the two most popular local weekly newspapers based in new york, the village voice, and the ny press. Most importantly, however, our customers keep coming back, and enthusiastically proclaim, “you have the best stuff.” We thank you for that.

Beacon's Closet is a clothing exchange store. We selectively buy, sell, and trade used clothing and accessories, from, to, and with the public, on a walk-in basis. Beacon's Closet specializes in both ultramodern and vintage attire. What we will buy is dictated by the following factors: season, demand, condition, and inventory level.
